Clara J. Johnson currently resides in a small town near Memphis, Tennessee. Clara is married to Minister John Somerville, pastor of a local Church of Christ. Together, they share a blended family of five adult children and six grandchildren.  

Clara’s post-secondary education includes an associate's degree, a bachelor’s degree, and a dual master’s degree in nursing. She also served in the military as a commissioned officer and was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1995. Clara has established a distinguished career in health care, marked by leadership, education, and innovation. She notably served as a nursing program instructor for over 15 years, responsible for educating and training adult learners pursuing nursing careers. Under her leadership, the program achieved a 100% licensure pass rate for five consecutive years. Her dedication to excellence earned her an Outstanding Achievement Award from the TN Board of Regents. In addition to her role in education, Clara has worked as a clinical informatics consultant. This role provided her with the opportunity to integrate information technology into the healthcare field.

Clara currently practices as an Adult Health Nurse Practitioner in long-term care and works with a local nonprofit organization providing testing and linkage to care for HIV+ patients.

In her leisure time. Clara enjoys gardening, canning,  beekeeping, and motorcycle riding.  

 Clara often reflects and identifies with the Biblical character, Ruth, a woman of great humility, loyalty, and dedication.
